U.S. President Barack Obama tells white lies to the American people and the world

On Tuesday night this week President Barack Obama delivered a speech to the American people announcing the end to the war in Iraq and the withdrawal of American troops. He also praised the U.S. military and emphasised how America had brought democracy and freedom to the Iraqi people, but nothing could be further from the truth. If anything, Obama should praise the U.S. media and the international media in the West for selling the greatest spin story ever told to the people of this planet.

No weapons of mass destruction were ever found in Iraq but nevertheless America and it allies invaded the country under that pretence. What the American people and the world was told was that this war was for world stability and to bring democracy to the Iraqi people. What they were not told was that Saddam Hussein, the ex Iraqi dictator was previously supported by the American and Western governments until he disobeyed their orders and became a threat to Western control in the Middle East.

In an article titled ‘How Iraq Built Its Weapons Programs’, in the St Petersburg Times, on March 16, 2003, former US Senator, Donald Riegle was quoted in this article saying, “What is absolutely crystal clear is this: That if Saddam Hussein today has a large arsenal of biological weapons, partly it was the United States that provided the very live viruses that he needed to create those weapons.”

According to an article by Neil Mackay, in the Sunday Herald, seventeen British companies supplied Iraq with nuclear, biological, chemical, rocket and conventional weapons technology.

Western governments were accessories to the crimes that Saddam committed and yet he alone stood trial and was executed.

Obama praised US troops referring to them as the “steel in our ship of state.” (Bill Van Auken: Global Research: September 1 2010) Left out was the numerous war crimes committed by American troops and their allies against the Iraqi people.

In November 2006, a U.S. soldier was sentenced to 90 years in prison for the brutal rape and murder of a 14 year-old Iraqi girl and her family.

The 23 year-old, along with three other soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division conspired to rape 14 year-old Abeer Qassim al-Janabiin in Mahmoudiya, a village around 20 miles south of Baghdad and then murdered her, her six year-old sister and her mother to cover up their crimes.

In another report back in 2008 on the Inter Press News Service website, US soldiers confessed at a Unitarian Church event that they were ordered to run over Iraqi children, ordered to prevent wounded Iraqis from entering hospitals, and ordered to target and kill every Iraqi military-age male. (IPS: October 2008)

This was not an honourable war as Obama and the Western media has portrayed it, it was a barbaric war of occupation to ensure that Iraqi oil remained under American control.

A draft document of the U.S./Iraqi “Strategic Framework Agreement”, the deal that former U.S. president George Bush forced on the the Iraqi government before he left office was leaked to the Guardian, on March 7, 2008 and to the Arabic newspaper (Middle East) on August 6, 2008. (Chalabi: October 23, 2008)

The document revealed that the U.S. attempted to impose an oil law on the Iraqi parliament since 2006 which would guarantee international oil companies control of Iraqi oil.

The U.S. also intends to control Iraqi airspace and the Iraqi government will have no control whatsoever or legal jurisdiction over U.S. military or planes. The U.S. military will be able to defend what they perceive as military threats internally and externally in Iraq without cooperation or consent from the Iraqi government, nor will the Iraqi government be able to hold the U.S accountable for the killings of Iraqi civilians.

The U.S. even using threatening tactics to get their own way. The UK Independent revealed that the U.S. threatened to hold back $50bn in Iraqi foreign reserves which they held in the US Federal Reserve Bank of New York until the Iraqi government signed the treaty.

In an article by Phillip Thornton and Andrew Gumbel for the Independent newspaper on the 22, September, 2003 it was found that Iraq’s Finance Minister, Kamel al-Gailani had drafted Iraq’s economic policies under the approval of both the US and UK governments.

The economic policies approved by the US and UK governments included 100% foreign ownership in all sectors of Iraq’s economy.

In the scientific journal, The Lancet, Gil Burnham and his Iraqi colleagues carried out research into Iraqi deaths between March, 2003, and July, 2006, and estimated that 654,965 Iraqis had died in that period.

They did not die for democracy, they died to restore the U.S. oil companies’ monopoly in Iraqi oil. They died for a lie.

Obama is also lying about the withdrawal of U.S. troops. According to Ron Paul, a Republican in the US Congress, “50,000 US troops remain in Iraq, and they are still receiving combat pay.”

Also, on the day the US troops withdrawal was announced Ron Paul said, “5,000 men and women of the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Hood were deployed to Iraq. Their mission will be anything but desk duty. Among other things they will accompany the Iraqi military on dangerous patrols, continue to be involved in the hunt for terrorists, and provide air support for the Iraqi military. They should be receiving combat pay, because they will be serving a combat role!

America and its allies are still essentially in control of the Iraqi government and people.

The greatest spin story has been sold to the American people and the world, and the most scary thing about it is that many people have either brought this spin story, given up on addressing injustices on a global level, or just simply do not care.
